Russian Stimulation: In order to activate or flex any muscle, your brain sends an electrical signal to that muscled via the nerves. The electrical signal causes the muscle to activate. Russian Stimulation replicates that electrical signal and can activate the muscle instead. This will thereby strengthen the muscle. This is a wonderful tool for rehabilitation, especially in patients where strengthening is difficult or for those patients where it is important to strengthen unevenly. For example, for patients who have mild to moderate structural scoliosis and those who have functional scoliosis, the inside of the curve is tight and the outside of the curve is usually weak. Therefore, strengthening the outside of the curve only is more beneficial. The inside of the curve in this case should be relaxed. Russian stimulation is a great way to achieve the strengthening portion.
